1901 Census shows John aged 9 living at Hopewell House with his parents Robert (49) and Margaret (54) and his siblings Robert (21) William (18), Joseph (11) and his neices and nephews Margaret L Ashworh (4) and Herbert (3) along with his grandfather James Craig (76).

The 1911 Census shows that he was a border in Egremont, Cumbria and his profession was wagon examiner.

1911 Census shows Henry was born in Overton, Lancashire and was living as a servant in Longpreston, his occupation showed farm labourer. By the time of the war he had been employed by Midland Railway in the locomotive department.

The 1901 census shows Henry J living in Morecambe with his parents Henry and Ellen and his siblings Arthur (10), Grace (7), Vincent (5), Emma (1).

Eldest son of the late James of Brown Edge, Arkholme, Kirby Lonsdale and Alice Canby (Borwick).

His brother Sergeant Frank W Canby is missing.

The 1911 census shows Thomas 17 born Arkholme living with his mother Alice (widow) from Warton aged 46 and his siblings Francis William aged 15, Annie Grace aged 14 and Richard Irving aged 11. The address shown only says Borwick, Carnforth.

The school admission register shows him starting school 27 August 1900, Thomas’s date of birth as 6 January 1894 and he was still living at Browns Edge. Arkholme. on 19 September 1902 he moves to Bentham Grammer School

1911 Census shows that John was born in Wigan Lancashire and was attending Kingswood School in Bath as a pupil.

John is buried alongside his father Rev. John Dugdale who died 31st July 1920.

Son of Robert and Grace Gardner. The 1911 Census shows that he has moved to Horton in Ribblesdale and is working as a farm labourer and is boarding with the farmer William Redmayne. Robert (65) and Grace (63) on the 1911 census Robert and Grace are still living in Warton but have moved to Warton Top, all the children have left.

The 1901 census shows Grace as head born in Lytham, Lancashire with her sons who were all born in Warton John (23), Richard (21), William (12) and Joseph (9) living at Crag Foot. John and Richard were working in the quarry.

Joseph enlisted in Settle, Yorkshire.

His brother William was also killed in WWI in 1917

An email was received in 2025, from a lady in the village of Nederweert, who explained that every soldier in the cemetery has someone looking after it and on the anniversary of the death, that person puts flowers on the grave. She had contacted us as she looked after George’s grave and wondered if there were any living relatives.

Walter was born 14 September 1876, the RAF papers shows his service date as 5 July 1918.

The 1911 census shows that he was living in King Street, Carnforth with his wife Jane Elizabeth (35) and their children Frances (9) and Marion (5). His occupation was a traveller and he was born in Newcastle, Staffordshire.

He is buried along with his son Walter Dockray Hales who died 22 July 1903 aged 3 days, his parents were living at King Street, Carnforth.

1911 Census shows that James was 22 years old and living at 15 Grange View with his parents Thomas (52) and Martha (51) and his siblings Nora (14) Thomas (12). His occupation was grocers assistant. He also had an older brother Richard who was 24 but not living at home on the day of the census.

The newspaper report states that he was killed in France, after three weeks at the front.

Richard was born 16 May 1878 in Pilling, Wyre Borough, Lancashire, he dies in West Yorkshire.

The 1891 census shows Richard (12) living with his parents John (33), Sarah Ann (33) and his siblings Ellen (9), Elizabeth Ann (6) Clara (2) and Ada 4 1/2 months

They were living in LNWR Cottage in Warton and his father was a railway porter. LNWR was the London North West Railway which built cottages across the west coast as the railways expanded.

The 1901 and 1911 shows only Sarah Ann, (Ellen (1901 census only) Elizabeth, Clara and Ada were at their home which was now in Sedbergh.

Richard attested at Lancaster on the 25 January 1896. He was shot in his left arm on the 13 October 1915 and was discharged from the Army on the 17 September 1916. When discharged he was suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis.

His probate record shows that his father Thomas Hutchinson retired stone breaker received £200 2s and 5d.

The 1911 census shows him aged 26 living with his parents Thomas aged 67 and Jane aged 69. Also on the census record are Elizabeth Wilson born Priest Hutton aged 30 and Hilda Annie Hutchinson born Shoeburyness, Essex, aged 4 grandchild and Margaret Lowler born Carnforth aged 72 widowed. The address they were all at was Priest Hutton.

Gerald was born 14 July 1883 in Leeds, Yorkshire 3rd son of the late Alfred Samuel Kirk of Greenwood Leghe, Ingleton, Yorkshire and his 2nd wife Isabella Ann nee Balderstone.

He married Sarah Ann Capstick on 21 April 1909 at Casterton near Kirby Lonsdale, Yorkshire.

Son of John and Alice and husband of Annie Clarke Peat. He was born 28 February 1917 at Ellel, Lancashire. The 1921 census shows he was living with his parents and siblings Grace (12), Sarah Alice (11), William and Robert (twins) (8), Eleanor (6), Jessie (2) and Doris Mary (1). They were all living in 6,The Crescent, Galgate, Lancaster. His brother Robert died 5 December 1941 in Libya, he was in the Border Regiment, 4th Battalion and was 29 years old. His sister Grace also died in Lancaster in 1941.

In 1939 he was living in Vernon Park, Lancaster with some of his sibliings, Grace, Robert, Jessie and Doris.

John married Annie Clarke Woods during five days of leave that John had on 29 April 1944 at St Oswald’s Church, Warton. A photograph of their wedding photograph is at St Oswald’s Church, on the reverse it says that John was killed at the Battle of Arnhem.

Annie went on to remarry Mr Walker.
